Aalulu Editorial Guidelines
These guidelines govern every piece of content we publish. They define how we select brands, how we score them, how we handle affiliate relationships, and what we do when we get something wrong.
đ These guidelines apply to all content published on Aalulu.com. They are not aspirational â they are the operating rules our editorial team follows on every review, every day.
1. Our Editorial Mission
Aalulu exists to help readers make better purchasing decisions. We do this by researching brands thoroughly, writing honest assessments, and presenting findings clearly â including both the strengths and weaknesses of every brand we cover.
We are not a brand promotional service. We do not exist to generate positive press for partner brands. Our job is to help readers answer the question: "Is this brand worth my money?"
2. Brand Selection Criteria
Not every brand that applies for review is accepted. Before we invest editorial resources in a review, a brand must meet minimum standards:
- Verifiable customer base: The brand must have a trackable history of real customer orders and reviews â not just marketing claims.
- Legitimate product range: Products must be legal, clearly described, and fit for purpose.
- Honest marketing: We do not review brands that make unsubstantiated claims (e.g., miracle health cures, guaranteed investment returns).
- Accessible customer service: The brand must have working customer support and a clear returns policy.
- Reader relevance: The brand must serve a genuine consumer need in a category our readers care about.
Brands that pass these initial screens are then evaluated against our full scoring criteria (see below). Acceptance into our affiliate programme does not guarantee publication of a review â if a brand does not meet our editorial standards upon closer examination, we decline to publish.
3. How We Score Brands â The Aalulu Expert Score
Every brand reviewed on Aalulu receives an "Aalulu Expert Score" out of 10. This score is calculated across five weighted criteria:
đ Product Quality 30%
Does the product deliver on its core promise? We assess materials, performance, consistency, and how the product compares to alternatives in its category.
đ° Value for Money 25%
Is the price justified by the quality? We benchmark pricing against direct competitors and assess whether the premium (if any) is earned.
â Customer Satisfaction 25%
What do real customers say? We analyse verified review data across platforms, weighting recent reviews more heavily than historical ones.
đ Brand Experience 10%
Shipping times, packaging quality, customer support responsiveness, and ease of returns all factor into the overall brand experience score.
đ Transparency & Trust 10%
Does the brand communicate honestly about ingredients, materials, manufacturing, or sourcing? Brands with full transparency score higher here.
The final score is a weighted average across these five dimensions. No score is ever negotiated with a brand â scores are calculated independently and are not shared with brands before publication.
Score Interpretation
| Score | Rating | What It Means |
|---|---|---|
| 9â10 | Outstanding | Among the best in its category. Highly recommended for most buyers. |
| 8â8.9 | Excellent | Delivers on its promise with only minor weaknesses. Recommended. |
| 7â7.9 | Very Good | Good product with some notable caveats. Worth considering for the right buyer. |
| 6â6.9 | Good | Decent but faces stronger competition. Review the caveats carefully. |
| 5â5.9 | Average | Mixed bag. Some positives, but meaningful weaknesses. Specific buyers only. |
| Below 5 | Below Average | Significant concerns. We do not actively recommend these brands but may publish for transparency. |
4. Affiliate Relationships & Editorial Independence
Aalulu earns affiliate commissions from brands it reviews. This is how we fund the site. We are transparent about this relationship on every page via affiliate disclosure notices.
However, the following rules are absolute and non-negotiable:
- Brands cannot pay for higher scores. Commission rates have zero influence on review scores.
- Brands cannot pay for more favourable editorial tone. Our written assessments reflect our genuine findings.
- Negative findings are always disclosed. If a product has a significant weakness, we say so â even if this costs us commission income.
- Brands do not review their own content before publication. Partner brands receive no preview, approval, or veto rights over our reviews.
- We can and do withdraw from brands. If a brand's quality declines materially or they engage in misleading practices, we remove or update our review and may terminate the affiliate relationship.
5. Content Standards
Accuracy
All factual claims in our content must be verifiable at the time of writing. We cite the source of statistics, clinical claims, or specific product specifications. If a claim cannot be verified, it is either not included or is clearly labelled as an estimate or reader-reported experience.
Freshness
Brand quality, pricing, and product ranges change. We treat all published reviews as "living documents" and conduct periodic reviews to ensure content remains accurate. Material changes (product recalls, brand acquisition, significant quality shift) trigger immediate review updates.
Expertise
Category-specific content is written by writers with relevant expertise or informed by credible expert sources. Health and supplement content references clinical evidence where available. Technical products are evaluated against objective performance benchmarks.
Reader Focus
Every content decision is filtered through the question: "Does this help a reader make a better purchasing decision?" Filler content, thin reviews, and promotional copy-writing are not published.
6. Corrections Policy
When we make factual errors, we correct them promptly and transparently:
- Confirmed factual errors are corrected within 48 hours of being reported.
- Significant corrections are noted at the bottom of the affected page with a correction timestamp.
- We do not delete or alter content to hide previous errors â we add a transparent correction note.
- If a correction materially affects a review score, the score is recalculated and the update is noted.
To report an error, use our contact form with "Correction Request" as the subject.
7. AI-Assisted Content
Aalulu uses AI writing tools as part of our content creation process. All AI-assisted content is reviewed, edited, and approved by our editorial team before publication. AI tools help with structure and drafting; all factual claims, scores, and editorial verdicts are the work of our human editors.
We do not publish AI-generated content without human review and approval.
8. Reviews vs. Sponsored Content
Aalulu does not publish paid sponsored content or paid guest posts. All content on this site is editorially independent. The affiliate commission structure (where we earn when readers purchase) is the only commercial relationship between Aalulu and brand partners.
If this ever changes â if we ever publish sponsored content â it will be clearly labelled as "Sponsored" or "Advertisement" in compliance with FTC and ASA guidelines.
9. Contact & Feedback
We welcome feedback on our editorial standards. If you believe we have violated these guidelines in any published content, please contact us with the specific page and concern. We review all editorial complaints within 5 business days.
